The outer waterproof layer and inner adsorption layer of the mask will be contaminated by droplets, water vapor, dust, etc. after use, and the filtration efficiency (such as the ability to block bacteria and viruses) will decrease with the use time.
The ear straps, nose clips and other parts may be deformed due to repeated wearing, resulting in the mask not fitting tightly to the face, forming gaps, and increasing the risk of pollutants entering.
The surface of the mask after use may be contaminated with pathogenic microorganisms (such as bacteria and viruses). When the mask is reused, touching the mask with hands or touching the mouth and nose with the mask can easily cause secondary contamination.
If the mask is soaked with liquid (such as saliva, droplets), its structure will be destroyed, and a humid environment is more likely to breed bacteria.
If masks are in short supply and require short-term reuse (such as in low-risk environments or during short outings), you can try the following methods to reduce risk, but their effectiveness is limited and long-term use is not recommended:
Ventilation and Drying: After use, hang the mask in a clean, dry, well-ventilated area (such as a balcony), away from direct sunlight (ultraviolet rays may damage the material). Leave it for 3-4 hours before re-use (one time only).
Alcohol Disinfection (Not Recommended, Use with Caution): Medicinal alcohol may damage the mask's electrostatic adsorption layer, reducing its filtering effectiveness. Only spray disinfectant should be applied to the outer layer of the mask (avoid contact with the inner layer), and air-dry the mask after disinfection.
Single Use Duration: Generally, it is recommended to wear the mask continuously for no more than four hours. Replace immediately if:
The mask is damp, damaged, or has an odor;
After contact with suspected infected individuals or visits to high-risk locations such as hospitals or train stations. Standardize wearing and disposal: When wearing, make sure the nose clip is pressed firmly and completely covers the mouth, nose and chin; before discarding, fold the mask in half (with the contaminated side facing inward), tie it with ear straps and put it in a special trash can to avoid contact with the contaminated surface.
